Crowns and tiaras have always been especially fascinating to me as some of the most amazing pieces of jewelry (and history). Some crowns have housed the some of the world’s most famous gemstones and the story of the stones themselves is often interesting. Resplendent and utterly glorious, having an ‘excuse’ to make a crown was probably one of the highlights of my year.

Since it’s still in the dancesport-jewelry realm, the crown was not made in the usual fashion but more similar to how the construction of our pieces usually happen (with the flexible silicone backing). This did present a few challenges from an architectural perspective while trying to keep the overall weight of the crown as light as possible. Added to that, is the challenge of keeping in on one’s head during an athletic dance performance!

With a lot of trial and error, research into pageantry crowns and crown-clips, and a few test-drives, we found some solutions that should do the trick 😉

We started off with an inspiration picture that was sent to us by our client and wanted to capture the essence and impact of the photo. We decided gold and emerald, to pick up on the green of the dress that the dancer will be wearing and to imbue that essence of royalty.

Becuase it’s so much better to see in full dimension, we’ve made a video:
