A friend of ours brought this in today…. unfortunately she won’t let me keep it (*cry*) but she’ll let me hang on to it for a short period so I can drool over some of my favourite things (like fonts, block printing and vintage ads). In a post-war economic boom, advertising was flourishing, and while we’re coming up to art deco you can still see the art nouveau influence in the fonts. And some of our favourite fashion looks as well:

I haven’t had a chance to flip through the entire thing yet… I’m sure I’ll see some fabulously wacky adds (after all, this is still an era that put a lot of faith into a lot of un-scientifically proven things). But here are some wonderful tidbits and even some tango instruction:

For anyone interested in the history of the corset – the 1920’s still had some on the market although were starting to become much less popular than ever, having been replaced by looser clothing and the bra.
